EUROPE DIRECT Craiova is the contact point between the citizens of Dolj County and the institutions of the European Union. It has operated since 2008 and is hosted by Asociația Mereu pentru Europa (Forever for Europe Association), a Romanian NGO active since 2005.

What we do

  • Free information and guidance on EU rights, funding opportunities and how the institutions work.
  • Workshops and information sessions for pupils, students, teachers, seniors and local organisations.
  • Civic dialogue events, where citizens’ views are collected and passed on to the European Commission Representation in Romania.
  • Distribution of official publications of the European Commission and the European Parliament.

We cover Dolj County first, and the wider South-West Oltenia region — Olt, Gorj, Mehedinți and Vâlcea. Rural outreach caravans are a core part of our work, because that is where EU information is hardest to reach.

The host organisation

Asociația Mereu pentru Europa has delivered 19 completed EU-funded projects in Oltenia, in education, employment, public health, entrepreneurship, cross-border cooperation with Bulgaria and environmental protection. Six further projects are currently under implementation.

Highlights include a regional colorectal cancer screening programme that informed 60,000 people, vocational training that certified 535 employees, and an entrepreneurship programme that led to 40 new businesses and 80 jobs.
