Europe Direct Craiova is one of 22 Europe Direct centres in Romania. We have been running without interruption since 2008, hosted by Asociația Mereu pentru Europa, a non-governmental, non-partisan association founded in 2005. We cover Dolj county and the wider South-West Oltenia region.

Most of this website is in Romanian, because that is the language of the people we serve. These pages are for European organisations and visitors who need to know who we are and how to work with us.

What we do

A Europe Direct centre is the place where a citizen can ask anything about the European Union and get an answer, free of charge, in their own language. In practice that means an open office, information sessions in schools and villages, public debates, and a weekly briefing that translates European decisions into what they mean for someone living in Oltenia.

We answer questions about rights, funding programmes, mobility and consumer protection. We do not answer on behalf of Romanian authorities — when a question belongs to them, we say so and point to the right institution.

The numbers

  • 19 completed EU-funded projects between 2008 and 2024, as lead applicant or partner.
  • 60,000 people informed about colorectal cancer screening in South-West Oltenia.
  • 1,720 pupils and students prepared for the labour market across five successive projects.
  • 18 years of continuous Europe Direct activity in Craiova, across six funding cycles.
